TBSSS teacher Monika Scarrabelotti has a solo exhibition opening this Wednesday 9th of June from 6 - 8pm at Chrissie Cotter Gallery, Camperdown. The State of Things will run until 20th June, Thursday - Sunday, 11am - 4pm.

About The State of Things:

At the beginning of 2020 I started to develop a new body of work considering eco-anxiety. However, emerging from a smoke-choked, apocalyptic summer and tumbling straight into the unpredictability of the global pandemic, what evolved was The State of Things: an amalgamation of the chaos that 2020 had to offer. During this time I had the great privilege to retreat to my childhood home on the south coast of NSW. Here the nostalgia and a deep connection with the rugged landscape had a profound influence on my art practice.

Using gestural figurative pieces and anthropomorphic forms, I have engaged with themes that are both deeply personal and universally felt.

My process involves casting and repetition of the same form or figure, in various states of decay. Using a range of materials including ceramics, cement, bronze, plaster, wax and found natural objects my body of work is an emotional narrative of the past 18 months.

Congratulations Monika, we look forward to seeing your show!
