Take a Look: Sculptures in the Garden
Sculptures in the Garden is an annual celebration of sculpture in Mudgee NSW!
This exhibition is usually an annual two-day sculpture exhibition, although in 2020 the format was updated to comply with COVID Safe guidelines and has been extended by two weeks - giving you more time to visit! The 10th Anniversary exhibition runs until Sunday 25th October and is definitely worth a visit if you can make it.
The exhibition takes place in the Rosby Vineyard gardens and draws established and emerging sculptors from across NSW to display their work. The inaugural Sculptures in the Garden event was held in October 2011 and attracted 130 sculptures and more than 1000 visitors over the weekend. The event now brings around 2000+ visitors to the region and showcases more than 250 artist’s work.
The objective for this event has always been to showcase sculpture as an artform, curate the work of some of the most interesting sculptors currently working in NSW, and engage the local community in the appreciation of – and education about – these works.
When Former director of the Art Gallery of NSW and respected art scholar, Edmund Capon opened Sculptures in the Garden 2016 he expressed his view that “Sculptures in the Garden has made such a contribution to our appreciation of the art of sculpture. It is no longer the poor cousin in the story of Australian art, but a lively thriving centrepiece.”
Artistic Director Kay Norton-Knight's vision is to bring sculptures to the Mudgee region; to provide a venue for emerging artists to display and sell their work and network with other artists; and to develop public art for the benefit of the community and visitors to the Mudgee region.
The SIG Committee is made up of seven local volunteers whose aim is to celebrate the work of Australian artists as well as raise money for local charity and art initiatives.
We would like to congratulate all the exhibitors in this 10th anniversary exhibition, but in particular we would like to single out Tom Bass Sculpture Studio teachers Monika Scarrabelotti, Ingrid Morley and Wendy Black on being included in the exhibition this year.
